More than 100 students attended the 5th annual Introduction to Design Engineering and Analysis Seminar (IDEAS) Science Day at the Buinger CTE Academy on Saturday, February 2. Each year, the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics employees in the Hispanic Organization for Leadership and Advancement (HOLA) partner with chapters of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers from Trinity High School and UT-Arlington to host the event. IDEAS Science Day helps connect 6th-12th grade students with their dream of pursuing a STEM career.
The first science workshop tasked teams of students with designing and building paper airplane gliders. During the afternoon science workshop, students designed and built bridges using spaghetti and marshmallows. Throughout the day students heard from Lockheed Martin professionals and college students about future STEM opportunities available to students.
